Can Demasoni Cichlid (Mbuna) and Wrestling Halfbeak Live Together?

Demasoni Cichlid (Mbuna) is a highly aggressive species (9/10), while Wrestling Halfbeak is generally mild-mannered (4/10). This notable difference means Demasoni Cichlid (Mbuna) may occasionally assert dominance over Wrestling Halfbeak.

In terms of spatial distribution, Demasoni Cichlid (Mbuna) prefers the Bottom (Substrate) and Middle (Open Water) zones, whereas Wrestling Halfbeak occupies the Top (Surface) zone. Because they use different levels of the water column, territorial disputes are less likely and the tank will appear more balanced.

To house Demasoni Cichlid (Mbuna) and Wrestling Halfbeak together, plan for an aquarium of at least 240 litres with a minimum length of 120 cm. This accounts for the larger species' space requirements with an additional 20 % buffer to reduce territorial tension.
