Can Bucktooth Tetra (Exodon) and Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) Live Together?

Bucktooth Tetra (Exodon) is a highly aggressive species (9/10), while Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) is moderately assertive (6/10). This modest difference means Bucktooth Tetra (Exodon) may occasionally assert dominance over Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir).

In terms of spatial distribution, Bucktooth Tetra (Exodon) prefers the Middle (Open Water) and Top (Surface) zones, whereas Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) occupies the Bottom (Substrate) zone. To house Bucktooth Tetra (Exodon) and Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) together, plan for an aquarium of at least 280 litres with a minimum length of 120 cm. This recommendation combines the stricter species minimums with a community-load allowance so the pairing has realistic long-term space and filtration headroom.

Because this pairing requires extra vigilance, include plenty of hiding spots — caves, driftwood, and dense plant clusters — so the less dominant fish can retreat when needed.
