Can Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) and Shortnose Gar Live Together?

Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) is a moderately assertive species (6/10), while Shortnose Gar is semi-aggressive (7/10). This modest difference means Shortnose Gar may occasionally assert dominance over Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir).

In terms of spatial distribution, Delhezi Bichir (Armored Bichir) prefers the Bottom (Substrate) zone, whereas Shortnose Gar occupies the Top (Surface) and Middle (Open Water) zones. Because they use different levels of the water column, territorial disputes are less likely and the tank will appear more balanced.

Because this pairing requires extra vigilance, include plenty of hiding spots — caves, driftwood, and dense plant clusters — so the less dominant fish can retreat when needed.
